What started as a friendly competition between co-workers has now evolved into an all out war. Welcome to the 2009 Elder-Geek.com Beard-Off.
Starting today, your end goal is to grow the sweetest beard possible. The deadline is November 27th. On that day, Elder-Geek.com forum users will vote on the overall sweetest beard. So far, the official competitors are:
Mats, Kipp, Randy, Jesse, and Patrick from the E-G staff are all in the beard-off.
Users Lax, Ray, Spylinkster, Keck282, Fez and KillerJuan77 have just decided to join the battle! (SB Reference)
We’ll update the list as more competitors join the fray.
Mats might have an unfair advantage since he’s 7/8 Viking. Patrick is going to try his best to sport a full on Fu Manchu, while the genetically disadvantaged Randy has grown at least one full lumberjack beard in the past.

I hope I can grow my beard before November, but then again, I’m still 16, so, it’s going to be hard. And I doubt that rubbing my face with Folicure will work, so, any way to make it grow faster?

Shave everyday twice a day, and get more testosterone in your system, only way. Sometimes it is genetic. At 16 I got a decent patch on my chin and that was it. Now at 19 it is coming in better.

You still haven’t solved our problem of including girls in the competitions, and I will say that we are not growing out our leg hair or any other hair in designs

Well now that is still a little bit of a problem, cause the rules say you have to grow a beard, so in that case the women would have to grow out hair other wise.
I don’t know how to supplement you, I didn’t make up the contest, I am just participating. Maybe you and Kristie should make up your own contest just for the women on the site, and that might attract more female members, just saying.

I already have a Kratos goatee. Pfft @ Mats and his viking heritage. I have viking, spartan, samurai, heritage etc. My goatee is biblical. However I am uncertain whether I wish to partake in this beard off. I usually keep it well trimmed, but if I were to let it grow I fear it would look like the old bearded Asian guy from Gremlins. Something not for the faint of heart. Although my goatee obviously wouldn’t grow out THAT long by November…

What the hell, I’ve decided to participate. I’m at a disadvantage though because I’m only 18 (well okay close to 19) :/ I’ll just have to hope that old wives tale is true and shave non-stop until it grows back within seconds.

You just have to grow it enough to be able to do something with it. It just has to look stylish, it doesn’t need to be a full on Grizzly Adam’s beard, although that would be bad ass.

Also as a judge, I would like to say that I have seen the cruci-beard, the criss-cross pattern down the neck, and zig-zag sideburns. Dexterity with your razor is a must, and points will be taken off if you have bits of tissue stuck to bloody spots on your face
