A new clip from the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 puts players in the shoes of terrorists in an airport shooting and killing civilians including wounded people trying to crawl away from the chaos. Questions remain over the actuality of this video and if it indeed is a level, which gamers will encounter. Infinity Ward released a statement claiming that the rumors were indeed true and that it would be a way for people to witness terrorist atrocities first hand. However, gamers will be given a choice to skip this part of the game and move on.

This controversial addition to the Call of Duty franchise will most likely receive criticism in light of recent terror attacks in Mumbai and, of course, September 11th. Due to be released in weeks, it is highly unlikely that Infinity Ward will remove this feature altogether.

  1. Cool, it is a game people, Movies have been doing this for years. Seriously, the game is rated M for a damn reason. I have a feeling some “Family Rights” groups want this game banned, and then the Republicans will jump in. Oh how I can’t wait to see what FOX “News” has to say about this. Oh it is just going to be so much fun!!!

  2. Awww FUCK ME! I didn’t want to know about this! *Forget what I read, forget what I read, forget what I read*

This is why I’m gonna love this game–if even matches COD4 in terms of cinematic nature, I’ll be happy.

  3. I’m not really sure how I feel about this… if the section has a strong message behind it, wonderfull… if the section doesn’t, it is just gretuitous, and they are doing it for the controversy.

This is the first time I have really felt like this about a video game… weird.

  4. Seeing as this is the opening level (for as far as I know), I really think they are taking it too far. No matter what kind of emotion they wish to communicate with the sequence, the player is thrust right into the middle of it without any clear justification as to why he or she should just stand by and watch, and does not have the ability to shoot the terrorists while they go about their business. If they do it without adding any ‘value’ to the shock, then they’re just doing this for the controversy, like Korne said.

If this were to happen in the middle of the game, after you have been infiltrating their cell for a long time, and for the entire game it has been something you’ve tried to avoid, but eventually failed, it might be a nice sequence… while still pushing the limits.

Sadly, I had the same thing in CoD5, where they pretty much order you to kill wounded and surrendering enemies. At least there they were enemies who had been shooting you mere seconds ago…
