EA has been in an expansion/DLC craze. Why not too? It's cost effective relative to initial development and seems to be steaming in healthy profits.

I saw some talk about a Black Hole gun for ME2... how could I have missed that? Turns out I didn't miss it in the game because it was never there. It was a "pre-order" bonus from GameStop /shakes fist.

It's sounding like it's going to be Dragon Age 2 next spring (with a reworking of the DA engine to increase graphical performance substantially).

It also seems as if there will be a Mass Effect 2 expansion pack next year. Heck they already have a Dragon Age expansion pack about to release under six months after the main game was first launched. That's very rare for a AAA RPG title such as DA... though I can see how it's possible given how long DA was in development. Remember it was announced at E3... in 2004.

I mention ME2 because (EA spokesperson Jeff Brown, who told us, "Both Dragon Age and Mass Effect are referenced in the FY11 SKU plan. That's all I can tell you for now.") - via Joystiq.

Mass Effect related content will be pumping out quicker too because there's a completely new studio working with Edmonton that wasn't there to assist with the first game (BioWare Montreal). I'd wager than Montreal is largely working on the DLC and expansion pack while Edmonton focuses on ME3. That's just a guess though.
