GI.biz reports that LEGO has decided to pull the plug on LEGO Universe, which launched in October last year. Though a large part of the game became free-to-play in June earlier this year and the game currently has more than 2 million registered users, a spokesperson for LEGO indicated that the company has “not been able to build a satisfactory revenue model in the target group.” With the game servers shutting down permanently on January 31st 2012, LEGO will also be closing down the development studio based in Louisville and a marketing team in Denmark.

LEGO has indicated that all players who have been registered as a paying member will be able to play the game for free during the final month in which the game is available.
