Tiltrus, Solytare, and Lights Out
By Randy Yasenchak
The Blackberry Storm might not be as popular as the iPhone, but as most of its users will tell you, it’s a fantastic phone with some pretty cool applications of its own. You just need to know where to find them. A fellow geek pointed a few FREE ones out to me this weekend while I was on vacation, so I thought I’d share.
First up is Tiltrus. Tiltrus is just like Tetris without buttons. There is no directional pad to move the pieces left and right. Instead you tilt the screen from side to side to move your pieces. Screen swiping will flip your pieces clockwise or counterclockwise. The ultra-responsive touchscreen and accelerometer work fluidly in this application. Just don’t expect to rack up super-high scores on Tiltrus. The game is VERY hard compared to shelf-versions of Tetris. It seems to sense that you need “piece A” but will only send you “piece A” once you’ve given up hope and plugged up the hole in desperation with “piece Z”. Any Elder-Geek with a Storm caught in a boring train station or car ride needs this application… because it’s FREE.
Solytare is Solitaire but for the Blackberry Storm. We’ve all probably lost more time in our lives to Solitaire than we’d like to admit, so a description probably isn’t necessary.
To get either Solytare or Tiltrus, go to http://wap.getJar.com in the browser on your storm. Once there click on quick downloads and there is a box to input a download code. Enter 51216 to download Tiltris and 6593 to download Solytare.
Lights Out is a simple puzzle game where you try to turn off all the light panels on your screen. Pushing on one light will turn off the lights directly above, below and to the sides of your selected panel. Or, if the lights are already off, it will turn them back on. It’s a simple concept, but you’ll quickly realize that the puzzles can get pretty hard. It’s a great time waster and you’ll quickly love the frustration of only having one light left on your screen… because it means you goofed up somewhere pretty bad. The game does have a “show hints” button so you aren’t caught crying in frustration in a public place.
To get Lights Out, enter http://go.mobihand.com?op=dlmh&pd=27257&l=1&ps=102 into your Storm’s browser.
I hope these three games help you all cure some boredom when you can’t reach another form of entertainment. The best part is, you can say “I just have to send a quick email” when you’re in a social situation that you want to escape; and then go somewhere to get some good gaming in.
