Jason Bergman, former producer at 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive, stated on his Twitter account that if the game had still been in production, Duke Nukem Forever was scheduled to have gone gold yesterday. The original tweet was as follows:

MOMENT OF SILENCE PLEASE: by the 3DR/TTWO development schedule, April 1st, 2010 was supposed to be the day Duke Nukem Forever went gold. :(

Duke Nukem Forever, which had been in development for over 12 years before the development team working on it was laid off in May 2009, has been a common subject of April Fools jokes in gaming-related media. Bergman added that it was intentional to use this exact date, as he stated that this “was going to be hilarious.”

Publisher Take-Two stated in December 2009 that even though the original development team had been let go, this doesn’t necessarily mean a demise of the project.
