In an interview with Eurogamer.net, EA’s senior vice president Patrick Soderlund stated that Battlefield 3 will be revealed in the “not too distant future.” It is unclear how long the title, which is set to be the official sequel to 2005’s Battlefield 2, has already been in development. Development of the title had already been confirmed back in June 2009, but no official news has been released since that time.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Soderlund indicated that development of the game is going really well, and added that he was looking forward to showing the title to the world. Furthermore, Soderlund stated that EA DICE is currently looking at “what to do with” the future of the Bad Company franchise, a spin-off from the “original” Battlefield series. A new installment in this series is currently not in development, as all resources available at EA DICE are dedicated to the development of Battlefield 3.

  1. Am I the only one that yearns for a true next gen WWII Battlefield game, in the vein of 1942? Battlefield 1943 doesn’t count (though I wish it was that game).

So much of everything these days is Modern Combat. It’s weird to want to go back to WWII after that era was over-saturated so much in years past.

    WWI would be interesting too.

    1. Man I really want to go back and play a really awesome WWII game in glorious HD. There is just something about those games that make them vastly more intriguing to me than modern combat. Also, health needs to return to FPSes to gain a bit more reality back, and make the games a little bit more challenging as it forces you to be careful of your every action.

I hope Gearbox releases some info about their next BIA game, cause I really want to go back 65-70 years and play a WWII shooter.

So, no I don’t think it is weird to want to go back and play a WWII shooter. Oh and WWI would be kind of stale cause of the trench warfare and the fact that the battle lines didn’t really move all that much, however dog fights with biplanes would be epic.
