Following rumors, Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan confirmed earlier this week that production of the PSP Go had been halted to allow the company to focus on the NGP. However, Sony Computer Entertainment of America has confirmed to Industrygamers that production of the handheld will be continued in North America.

Though the PSP Go never managed to achieve mainstream success, Sony has continued to support the handheld since its release in October 2009. Despite an extensive marketing campaign, both consumers and retailers continued to prefer the PSP 3000 over the PSP Go, as it was compatible with UMD-based games. The PSP Go is the first handheld console to be entirely reliant on the digital distribution of software.
