Want to work with one of the most famous game engines in the business? Well, Valve’s letting you – and everyone else in the world – do that for free. The software development kit for the Source engine has been released without charge, previously only accessible with a purchase of a game running on the SDK.

In a follow up to the original Reddit listing, Rock Paper Shotgun managed the following quote from Robin Walker, one of the developers of Team Fortress 2.

“We are in the process of getting it all done. It’s a bit messy because we have multiple versions of the SDK, and there’s some dependencies we need to shake out. But yes, the gist of it is that we’re just going to go ahead and make the Source SDK freely available.”

Good news, EGs? Or was the barrier to access never really that high to begin with, in your view? Give us your thoughts in the comments section!
