With rumors suggesting that EA would be on the verge of announcing layoffs that would affect between 500 and 1000 jobs, the publisher has confirmed to MCV and Joystiq that no lay-offs are currently planned. More information is included after the jump.

According to the rumors, EA would be planning to lay off a significant amount of staff following dissapointing results from both Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Despite critical success and large number of units sold, the games would still not have performed as well commercially as EA has expected. Additionally, subscription numbers for Star Wars: The Old Republic would supposedly already be dropping. Whether either of these claims are true is not known.

While EA usually does not comment on rumors, it has told MCV that “there are no lay-offs as such”. Talking to Joystiq, a spokesman added that the company makes adjustments to team sizes all that time but that the overall headcount of the company is expected to be up by the end of the year. Whether any smaller lay offs have taken place or are expected to be announced is currently unclear.
