Nintendo unveiled a new model for its glasses-free 3D handheld earlier tonight: the 3DS XL, or 3DS LL in Japan. The crowning announcement of the Big N’s latest Nintendo Direct broadcast, the 3DS XL will launch in the States on August 19th for $200 (July 28th for Europe and Japan). Up-sizing the screens to 4.88 inches for the upper and 4.18 inches for the lower, the new model will release with three colors: plain white, red and black, or black and silver.

The 3DS XL will also sport a longer battery life than the current SKU, clocking in at 3.5 to 6.5 hours for 3DS games and 6 to 10 hours for DS games. The system will work with current AC adapters, but none will be included with any launch package.

  1. That is stupid that they aren’t including a charger. I like the bigger screen and battery life, but wish they would have put a second circle pad on that thing.

  2. I wish that they made the hardware more powerful for this thing. And arnt they losing more money by doing this?
