The much beloved franchise Earthworm Jim recently had a major revival in the form of a sequel announcement. In an interview with Eurogamer, Shiny Entertainment founder David Perry confirms his firm expectation that Earthworm Jim will finally have a new game made. The sequel brings together the original developers, who – via private Facebook discussion group – have so far planned the game out as a 2D platformer and decided on a general plotline.
“Our problem is that the team is all doing well in whatever they’re doing right now,” Perry stated, whose cloud game streaming service Gaikai just became Sony’s newest high profile subsidiary, “It’s just a bunch of guys who all have their own thing. Everyone has their own company. So, to get them to stop what they’re doing and work on a game is very difficult, but it’s something they all want to do.”
Like Perry, many of the original developers are major players elsewhere in the community. Tommy Tallarico, series composer, is running the music tour Video Games Live, and Doug TenNapel, writer and artist, has seen success in film and comic book art.
No specifics for a release date as of yet, but it is certain that Earthworm Jim is finally coming out of retirement.
