Following speculation that the recently announced Playstation Cross-Buy feature would only be making its way to Europe, Shuhei Yoshida (the head of Sony Worldwide Studios) has gone on record to say that the service will in fact be coming to both North America and Europe. He confirmed to CVG that his earlier statements were merely meant to indicate that it wasn’t sure whether the service would also be made available in Japan.
The Cross-Buy service will allow players who already own a game on their Playstation 3 to also use play it on their Playstation Vita, and vice-versa. So far, only a handful of first party titles have been confirmed to be making use of the service, but EA has confirmed it is considering to make the upcoming Need for Speed: Most Wanted available through this as well. The only other titles that have been confirmed to be eligible for Cross-Buy are PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Ratchet & Clank: Q-Force and the Sly Cooper Collection.
Whether more third parties will follow suit with their titles remains to be seen. Jim Ryan, the CEO of Playstation Europe, confirmed that the architecture of the Playstation Vita and Playstation 3 are very different, thus making the cross-over between the platforms quite limited.
