A rumor hit the internet earlier today that SuperBot Entertainment, developer of PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, had laid off an unknown amount of its staff. Beginning with a Twitter message from Insomniac Studios developer Mike Birkhead which stated, “Layoffs at SuperBot. When it rains, it pours.”, Sony has now confirmed the story. In a statement sent over to IGN, Sony announced that it could “confirm that SuperBot Entertainment did make a reduction in their workforce today. The studio and SCEA remain committed to supporting PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale post launch, including developing the title’s forthcoming DLC releases in the coming months.”
Sony did not make clear how many staff members were laid off, but in a later Twitter message from Birkhead, the figure was estimated at 20 staffers. The number remains unconfirmed by Sony and Superbot.
