Nintendo has announced the next Legend of Zelda game will be on 3DS, set in the same world as the SNES classic Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Despite that association, it will feature a brand new storyline and new dungeons.
The new Legend of Zelda game was revealed at the end of the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast with Nintendo America COO and President Reggie Fils-Aime explaining new gameplay mechanics. A 3D version of the debut trailer will be on the Nintendo eShop today, so viewers can get a proper feel of how the 3D depth works into the game.
“What we want to achieve with this new Zelda game is to reinvigorate the flat 2D world of A Link To The Past with the sense of height and volume using the three-dimensional display of Nintendo 3DS.” Nintendo Europe president Satoru Shibata said. “With it, it’s easier to differentiate levels in the environment and we can truly utilise height differences in dungeons as a puzzle-solving mechanic. While this game is set in the game world of A Link To The Past it features entirely new dungeons and an original story arc.”
No official subtitle was announced for the game, but it will release in the 2013 holiday season.
