Executive vice president of auction organizer Heritage Global Partners, Nick Jimenez has told Gamespot that the 38 Studios intellectual property auction has been moved to December, pending court approval. The auction was originally scheduled to take place this month.
The auction includes assets such as MMO Project Copernicus, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning sequel rights and also intellectual property rights for Big Huge Games franchises including Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends and Catan. The lawyer representing Rhode Island, Richard J. Land, sought court approval this week to delay the auction due to the “greater than expected” interest from potential bidders.
The proceeds from the auction will go to the state of Rhode Island, as the state was granted ownership of 38 Studios’ franchises when the studio declared bankrupt last year after missing scheduled loan repayments.
