IGN reports that VIZ Media will soon be launching a 24-hour Anime channel known as “Neon Alley.” The channel will be accessible through an as-of-yet unspecified gaming console as a subscription service.
Running at $6.99 a month, users will be able to watch series including Tiger & Bunny, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc, Zetman and Nura: Rise of Yokai Clan, as well as Naruto Shippuden, Inuyasha: The Final Act and Death Note. Neon Alley will also feature original content, though little more information regarding this was revealed.
All shows broadcast through the service will be dubbed in English. Neon Alley is scheduled to go live some time this fall, though a specific date was not announced.
This is pretty cool. I’m not a fan of VIZ entertainment, so I won’t be subscribing, but I think they hit the right price point for anyone that is interested.
This cool, but I wish there was the option for Japanese with subs. Also since it will come potentially to consoles, it would be better for people to watch whatever show they want instead of having to stay with a strict broadcast schedule.
The price is right in line with Crunchyroll, but Viz doesn’t have the added appeal of having simulcast airings of new shows. Will have to see how this turns out.
