According to a USA Today report, the NCAA filed a lawsuit on November 4th against Electronic Arts over the the proposed settlement with the Collegiate Licensing Company regarding the use of their likenesses in the publisher’s college football game series.
The suit accuses EA and the CLC of breaching contractual obligations such as maintaining liability insurance to protect against claims like this, which would cover the NCAA’s legal costs. The suit seeks to prevent EA and the CLC from going through with the settlement, have EA cover the NCAA’s future liability involving the publisher’s NCAA games, and also cover legal fees for this suit, and the player likenesses case.
The CLC told USA Today, it is “caught in the middle of a dispute between NCAA and EA which should not involve” them. The NCAA and EA have yet to comment on the matter.
