Block by Block 11 Sep

In an attempt to encourage youth to join in the reconstruction and urban planning process, Mojang has decided to partner with the United Nation to launch “Block By Block”. As part of their blog announcement of the project, Mojang has put forth a Minecraft reconstruction of the Kibera settlement in Nairobi, Kenya that will act as the pilot for the program. Said program is part of  a three-year partnership with the U.N. Habitat’s Sustainable Urban Development Network and will help “upgrade 300 public spaces by 2016.”

“‘Block by Block’ aims to involve youth in the planning process in urban areas by giving them the opportunity to show planners and decision makers how they would like to see their cities in the future.” reads the announcement blog, “Minecraft has turned out to be the perfect tool to facilitate this process…Mojang will be the main financial sponsor for Block by Block and we will work closely with the UN to help reach the goals set up.”
