Planetside 2 creative director, Matt Higby, has announced his departure from Daybreak Game Company formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment.

“This is a move I’ve been considering for a while now, and the reorganization provided the right opportunity for me to exit,” Higby wrote on Reddit, in part.

Higby joined Sony Online Entertainment in 2001, and in 2011 became creative director for the free-to-play MMO Planetside 2.

“Planetside 2 is in great hands, with terrific people who honestly care about the game and the players,” Higby assured PlanetSide fans. “I can’t stress this enough, the folks working on every aspect of the game, developers, marketing, community are talented, hard working people who care more than you can imagine — I’m fully confident they’re going to do an amazing job on the next leg of the journey.”

Earlier this month, Sony announced that it had sold Sony Online Entertainment to investment firm Columbus Nova. As part of the change in ownership, the studio was renamed as Daybreak Game Company but it said it would continue to work on existing and in-development titles. Earlier this week, Daybreak announced that it had laid off some of its staff.
