Several days after Yoichi Wada (President of the Square Enix holding company) stated in an interview published on the Square Enix website that the company’s goal is to become one of the top ten players in the global media and entertainment industry, the Japanese developer / publisher has revealed three new games it will be publishing in the future. The press release, which was issued by the company last Friday, listed all games to be featured at the E3 and included the previously unknown games.
First to be listed is the third person Mech-based combat game, FRONT MISSION EVOLVED. This game is being developed by Double Helix Games, which most recently released Silent Hill: Homecoming and whose developers are known for classics such as Sacrifice, MDK and Earthworm Jim. Square Enix will be publishing the game, as well as assist in the development of the game and is A release window for the game is not set, but it will be released on the PC, PS3 and X360.
Another game revealed in the statement was NIER, a hack & slash game developed by Cavia Inc. and published by Square Enix. The game revolves around protagonist Nier, who must find a cure for his daughter who has been infected by a disease that has been corrupting the entire nation. For some reason, that requires a big sword and bucketloads of blood. The official website for the game, which went live today, contains some screenshots and a trailer to the game. Unfortunately, the media released pales in comparison to what other developers have released over the recent days to promote their respective games, and therefore fails to impress amongst much of the other Pre-E3 hyping that has been going on. No release date is known yet for the game, although it has been stated that it will be available on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The trailer can be found here.
The final game to be revealed was ORDER OF WAR, a real time strategy game set in the final year of the Second World War; 1944. This RTS, which will focus on large scale battles controlling both the American forces and the German troops, is currently under development by Wargaming.net. The game is scheduled for a release during the fall of 2009, and will be available on the PC exclusively.
More information regarding previously announced games has not been released in the statement, although a new screenshot and some video footage for Supreme Commander has been revealed earlier this week. They can be found here and here, for the screenshot and the clip respectively. Also, no new information regarding games under development by the recently acquired Eidos studios is available.
