2K Games has announced that a new instalment in the long-running Sid Meier’s Civilization series is currently in development at Firaxis Game. Civilization 5 will be the third instalment in the series to be developed by the team at Firaxis. The game is being developed exclusively for the PC and will feature a new combat system as well as expanded options for diplomatic relationships, while retaining it’s iconic turn-based approach.
Unlike it’s predecessors, the game grid will consist of hexagon tiles and therefore allow for more strategic gameplay. Furthermore, the game will contain the ability for players to utilize ranged bombardments, that will allow weapons to be used from behind the front lines. Further improvements include fully-animated leaders who, for the first time in the history of the series, will speak in their native tongue.
The game is scheduled for a release during Fall 2010. A set of screenshots for Civilization 5 can be found after the jump.
