Epic Games has announced that it will let fans of the Gears of War series decide whether the third Carmine brother, to be introduced in the upcoming third installment in the franchise, will survive long enough to witness the credits or if he will suffer an early demise just like his two brothers.
Starting July 29th, Xbox Live users will be able to purchase two items of Avatar clothing with the text “Save Carmine” or “Carmine Must Die.” By purchasing one of these shirts, users cast their vote on whether Clayton Carmine will survive or not. It is unclear when the poll will be closed or how much the items will cost a piece, but Epic has announced that all proceeds from this event will go to Child’s Play.
Over the course of the series, players had to take care of a rookie soldier from the Carmine family in both installments. Both of these met unfortunate ends at some point during the respective games. In the original Gears of War, the oldest Carmine brother, Anthony, was felled by a sniper round after his Lancer rifle jammed. His second brother, Benjamin, met his demise when he fell out of a chopper into the gaping maw of the Rockworm. The third brother, Clayton, is the “rookie” who is introduced who in the third installment in series.
Several screenshots featuring Clayton Carmine are shown below the jump, as well as some images of the Avatar shirts that will soon be made available. Gears of War 3 will release on April 5th, 2011, for the Xbox 360.
What do I purchase if I want him to suffer a terrible injury, languish in a hospital for three months before developing a severe case of shell shock and go into politics as a result of failing to get the care he needed?
I have no idea, but I can’t even begin to imagine the horror Clayton would inflict upon my poor avatar if I’d let him wear a “Carmine Must Die” shirt… that guy looks seriously badass.
