Speaking at GDC Online earlier today, Battle.net project director Craig Canessa stated that the second episode in the StarCraft II trilogy, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, is at least 18 months away from being released. This implies that we can expect the game to be released by March 2012 at its soonest.
Additional news concerning the game seems to be quite a while away, as a Blizzard representative told GameSpot that StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm would not be part of the line-up at BlizzCon, which will be held in Los Angeles at the Anaheim Convention Center on October 22nd and October 23rd.
This makes sense. There’s no reason to rush and put one out every year when you can extend this series for another 4-5 years with the next two expansion packs. Then not long after all of that, we’ll probably get Warcraft IV and the cycle will repeat.
