Sunsoft made major waves in the news when they recently announced a social game based on the larger aspects of Sega’s cult classic Shenmue. Dubbed Shenmue City, the project got a bit more credible with the confirmation of Yu Suzuki, the game’s original director, is staffed to direct the social game as well. The game is being developed by Ys Net, and will debut on Yahoo! Mobage later in the year.
The game has also confirmed its main hub as Yokosuka, one of the game series’ central locations. The game will also be operating on the free-to-play model, offering unique items and other merchandise via micro-transactions.
Why make it a mobile game? I hate it when devs do these kind of things and discriminate their larger fanbase for whatever reason.
