Looks like Polyphony Digital’s reported 2,000-day production cycle paid off, as the latest in the Gran Turismo driving simulation franchise has made some serious numbers. In a little over two weeks on store shelves, Gran Turismo 5 has sold over 5.5 million units worldwide. While not Call of Duty figures, the statistics do push the total sales for the franchise over 60 million units since its 1997 Playstation launch. No further sales information has been released at this time, but more can is expected once the calendar year ends.

“For allĀ Gran Turismo fans around the world, SCEI and the developer of the Gran Turismo series, Polyphony Digital Inc., will continue hereon to vigorously promote development of theĀ Gran Turismo series, which can be expected to evolve even further through the PS3 platform and broadband network environment.”
