Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, has announced that Microsoft is currently recruiting Xbox-users who are interested in testing out a new system update, which also features an updated disk format.
In his most recent blog entry, Hryb invites all Xbox 360-owners in the United States to sign up for the beta test of the upcoming system update. Details provided indicate the update includes compatibility with an updated disk format, though no additional details are currently available regarding this. Participants will receive a free copy of Halo: Reach, as well as other, currently unspecified, rewards.
According to Hryb, the program has several thousands of slots available, giving those interested a good chance to be selected for the test. Users who have access to an Xbox Live Gold account will be given preference over Silver users, though the latter will still be able to sign up. Due to distribution limits, the current offer is only available to users in the United States.
