Speaking to VG247, Disney Interactive has confirmed that an unspecified number of employees has been laid off at Split/Second developer Black Rock. The studio later confirmed that a planned sequel for Split/Second was cancelled after the new management of Disney Interactive indicated the company was looking to focus more on freemium titles. A source close to Black Rock has stated that the company recently had several weeks during which all employees brainstormed on new projects. Despite several promising pitches to Disney, the source indicated that Disney appeared unwilling to commit a large development team to new and risky endeavours. However, Black Rock will continue to work on current projects.
The Brittish developer has a strong trackrecord in the racing genre, and was originally founded in 1998.
