According to a statement by Gail Gygax, the widow of Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax, the City of Lake Geneva Board of Park Commissioners approved an application earlier this year that will allow a memorial for the legendary game developer to be erected in either Donian Park or Library Park in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The memorial will be 10 by 10 feet, and consist of a bronze bust of Gygax, placed on a castle turret. Gail Gygax also stated that a dragon will envelop the turret, though the final details and design have yet to be decided. Permission for the memorial was granted in January, pending the final design of the memorial.
The exact location for the memorial has been confirmed, though Gail Gygax has yet to confirm when she expects construction of the memorial will begin.
Gary Gygax died in 2008, at the age of 69.
Good to see people involved in gaming are getting the respect they deserve. The only person I can think of who had a greater impact than him on Fantasy and gaming is Tolkien himself. Maybe Miyamoto, but that is hard to gauge.
