According to a report by VG247.com, Disney has confirmed that Black Rock Studios, the developer behind the arcade-style racer Split/Second is expected to close its doors within theĀ foreseeableĀ future. The studio was already forced to lay off a substantial number of employees last May, but Disney has indicated that the final 40 employees that remained with the studio will now also be laid off.
The studio will be closed because its current project has not been greenlit for further development by Disney. However, Eurogamer reports that has been informed by an anonymous source that “Disney handled Black Rock clumsily, outsourcing games to other companies that the Brighton studio was more than capable of producing.”
