Zelda Producer: ‘Majora’s Mask’ Remake Could Happen, If You Want it Bad Enough
26 Jul, 2011
Eiji Aonuma knows how to goad fans into getting him more work. In an interview with Nintendo Power (via Zelda Informer), The Legend of Zelda series producers stated that an Ocarina of Time-esque 3D-ifying of its sequel Majora’s Mask is “wouldn’t be an utter impossibility”. All that’s missing from the pre-production equation is the fan clamor.
“One of the big things that we made [the Ocarina of Time] remake possible was that there was an outpour of emotions from people who said they would like to see this game done,” Aonuma baited, “I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamor from fans for a remake of Majora’s Mask, it wouldn’t be an utter impossibility.”
Majora’s Mask is one of those sequels whose worst fault is that it exists after its prequel. After the most universally acclaimed game in history, Mask‘s darker tone both set it uncomfortably apart from Ocarina, and could make a perfect fit for the 3DS’ still faltering library. Nintendo has yet to officially echo Aonuma’s enthusiasm on the subject, but if enough fans ask for it (at least outside of the States), there would be little reason for Nintendo not to use that as their 5,389th excuse to return to an old property.

Any Majora’s Mask fans amongst us, EGs (Ed. Note – aside from me)? Would you play a 3D-ified version of the game on the go? Leave your thoughts in the comments section!
