Speaking to IGN, the Atlus Vice President of Sales and Marketing (Tim Pivnicny) confirmed that the recently released adult-oriented adventure title Catherine has become the fastest selling game in the history of the company. The game sold in excess of 200,000 copies in the first week alone, and according to Pivnicny, the game continues to show a strong performance at retailers.
To celebrate the fastest-selling title in over 20 years, the Atlus team ordered a Catherine-themed cake, of which a picture is included after the jump.
Congrats to Atlus. This just shows that niche titles can sell. Just wish Nintendo would understand that and actually market those niche games better…
And IIIIIIII helped.
So, 200k… if only THQ would be just as excited for those numbers, we would still have Red Faction.
Or Nintendo with Fire Emblem. Too many big companies expect million unit sellers. Budgets are too high for some games.
I don’t know why, but I really want the slice of cake with the “M for Mature” ESRB rating part on it.
