Kotaku reports that over the weekend, more than 3 million Steam codes for Dirt 3 were stolen by hackers. The codes were allegedly part of an AMD promotion where customers would receive a free copy of the game with their purchase. Codemasters has confirmed that there has indeed been a security breach, and that product codes for the game have been obtained. However, the company assured consumers that all accessed information was stored on a third-party server, and that the security of Codemaster or AMD servers has not been breached.
No reports have surfaced indicating that users who illegally redeemed a copy of the title have been banned from Steam or received a warning from Valve, though Codemasters has indicated it is trying to block access to the codes. AMD will continue to honor valid vouchers for the free game, but indicates the process might take longer given the present circumstances.
