The organization behind the yearly Grammy Awards has announced the nominees for 2013, and for the first time in the history of the awards, a video game has made the cut. The soundtrack for Thatgamecompany’s Journey has been nominated for an award in the “Best Score Soundtrack in Visual Media” category, alongside works such as Hans Zimmer’s score for The Dark Knight Rises and John Williams’ The Adventures of Tin-Tin. More details are included after the jump.
The score for Journey was composed by Austin Wintory, who has also worked on several other video games and movies. Even though Journey is the first video game to have its entire score nominated for a Grammy Award, composer Christopher Tim was the first artist to receive a Grammy Award for a video game-related score. His arrangement of “Baba Yetu,” the theme song of Civilization IV, was awarded with a Grammy in 2011.
