EA Labels President Frank Gibeau has stated in a recent blog-entry on the EA website that in preparation for transition to a new console cycle, the company has let go several employees from the EA Los Angeles and EA Montreal studios, as well as some staff at smaller locations worldwide. More details are included after the jump.
Gibeau stated that thousands of employees have been retrained and redeployed leading up to the implementation of the new hardware, but that this hasn’t been possible for all teams. These teams, located at the EA Los Angeles, EA Montreal, “as well as […] some smaller locations.” It was not revealed exactly how many employees were let go from these various locations. The EA Los Angeles studio houses the Danger Close team, which worked on the Medal of Honor franchise, whereas the the EA Montreal studio is currently involved in co-developing Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel together with Visceral Games.
In his blog post, Gibeau states that he considers the upcoming transition to a new generation of hardware to be challenging and complex, but fully expects the publisher to be ready for these changes.
