According to GamesRadar sources, BioWare San Francisco has been shut down and as a result, 25 to 30 employees have been laid off. EA reportedly decided to close the studio because it was “too expensive” to produce social and mobile games from the Redwood Shores, CA area. The company, formerly EA2D, made social media spin-offs of EA franchises including Dragon Age: Legends (which closed down last May due to low participation) and the browser-based Mirror’s Edge 2D.
EA has responded to inquiries, stating that EA Labels president Frank Gibeau had addressed the issue in a previous blog post entitled “Transition Is Our Friend.”
