The Des Moines Register has reported that the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board approved $20 million in tax credits for Microsoft, who is planning to invest $677.6 million in a data center in West Des Moines.

The investment, known as “Project Mountain”, will expand support for Xbox LIVE and “the growing demand for Microsoft’s cloud services” and represents “our latest in efficient data center thinking”, Microsoft’s Christian Belady said.

Microsoft currently employs around 50 individuals at the data center and plans to invest at least 24 more. The company also owns about 40 acres of land in West Des Moines.
