God of War developer Sony Santa Monica is relocating to a large 20-acre facility on Jefferson Boulevard in Playa Vista as well as expanding its operation, founder Shannon Studstill has told Variety.
In addition to developing games, Sony Santa Monica functions as a studio where indie developers can embed themselves and use the team’s specialist knowledge to help them with development on their games. Giant Sparrow, thatgamecompany and Ready At Dawn have all been part of this program.
Studstill said that the addition space the facility provides will allow the team to house two indie studios at the same time. It also has an “improved sound bay, and a motion capture studio”, where Sony plans to “drive traffic to that space” to “create more of a culture of sharing.”
“With the new space we will have more to offer,” Studstill added, “we’re building on what we know”.
