Mojang co-founder Markus “Notch” Persson confirmed on Twitter today that Mojang is currently working with Warner Bros. to create a movie based on Minecraft.
“Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie,” Persson wrote. “I wanted to be the leak!”
Persson also confirmed the news to Polygon in an email. “It’s for real. I think every part of that tweet was real, including me wanting to be the one to spill the news about a potential movie,” he said, in part. “Also, I [am] very well aware that this might be Minecraft jumping the shark, but how often do you get to be part of making a movie?”
According to Deadline, The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee as well as Jill Messick are producers for the film. Persson said he would not comment on personnel Warner Bros. may hire, or the contract for the Minecraft movie rights.
