GameRanger developer Scott Kevill has revealed on Reddit that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 multiplayer on PC will still be playable using the program after May 31st.
“As mentioned elsewhere, people are already playing it just fine on GameRanger, and will continue to after May 31,” Kevill wrote. “(I’ve already simulated it with GameSpy blocked and cut-off.)”
It was revealed on the Steam pages for both Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Empire at War yesterday, that the games would lose their multiplayer features on May 31st due to the GameSpy server shutdown.
“As of May 31, 2014, online functionality, including network multiplayer and wireless chat, will no longer be available for this title,” the message read. “We regret any disappointment as a result of the shutdown of the services supporting these online features.”
The shutdown is affecting a long list of games that used the service, with some games including Borderlands, Battlefield 2 and Civilization IV transitioning to different services to keep their multiplayer modes alive.
