Ubisoft has revealed that Assassin’s Creed Unity will feature microtransactions to “hack” unlocks, rather than earning them through play.
According to senior producer Vincent Pontbriand, the ability to “fast track” the unlock system with real money is “pretty much” the extent of the title’s microtransactions.
“Companion apps, monetisation, other business models, digital only… We have to be reactive to these things, but not necessarily fundamentally change what we’re trying to do,” Pontbriand told the Official Xbox Magazine, in part. “It depends. If we think it fits the gameplay, or the brand itself, the core values, we’re willing to take those risks. If not, then not. We’re not going to make any compromises.”
Ubisoft released an 11 minute gameplay demo of Assassin’s Creed Unity earlier this week, showing off an assassination mission.
Assassin’s Creed Unity is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 28th.
