In an interview with SlashFilm, director Zach Lipovsky has revealed that the upcoming Dead Rising film will take place between the events of Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3.
“I think the franchise actually brings a lot of new energy to the genre that we haven’t seen in a zombie movie,” Lipovsky said, in part. “The idea that you can be bitten and remain human as long as you take your medicine every day is very interesting and dramatic.”
“Another very cool element from the game is the zombies remember a little bit about their previous lives. There is something really haunting about seeing a zombie cop randomly firing his gun, or a zombie mom pushing a stroller.”
He also noted that while the film will have darker beats, but ultimately will match the lighter tone of the games. “Every time I get scared or laugh while playing, I make a note to add it to the script. Tonally it will be like ‘Indiana Jones with Zombies’. Fun, scary, dramatic action.”
The adaptation will star Jesse Metcalfe from John Tucker Must Die and Deperate Housewives. Mehan Ory, Virginia Madsen, Dennis Haysbert and Keagan Connor Tracy will also be in the film.
The Dead Rising movie will release first on Sony’s Crackle service, and then be distributed worldwide as both a single feature length film and an episodic series depending on the platform and territory.
