Beamdog, who is responsible for the Enhanced Edition iOS ports of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, has confirmed that the game it has been working on codenamed Adventure Y is a new Baldur’s Gate title.
The new entry in the series will bridge the gap between Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 and will also be built on the same Infinity Engine.
“Adventure Y will be an addition to the Baldur’s Gate line using the Infinity engine, bridging the gap between Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition,” the publisher wrote on its website, in part. “Keep an eye on the Beamblog in late spring for announcements regarding the content and release date of Adventure Y. We have an exciting release planned for this game, something bigger than we’ve ever done before.”
“We got a lot of questions about Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition and a potential Baldur’s Gate III on our reddit AMA,” Beamdog added. “We’d be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur’s Gate III game, so we won’t say that. But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a 5th edition game.”
Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition released on PC, Mac and iOS in September 2012 with the sequel following in November 2013. The Enhanced Editions featured updated visuals, new characters and hundreds of improvements over the 1998 and 2000 original PC releases from BioWare.
