Square Enix has announced that it is looking for developer submissions for game ideas based on Eidos properties Gex, Fear Effect and Anachronox as part of the Square Enix Collective crowdfunding platform.
Square Enix teased making their old properties available to Collective developers when it first launched the platform last year. The Collective was launched as a way for indie developers to pitch game projects to Square Enix, which will then be voted on by the public. Successful projects will receive marketing and development from Square Enix, and then move to crowdfunding websites.
In a blog post, Square Enix noted that it is open to new interpretations of the franchises. “It doesn’t mean that we’re looking for straight-up sequels, we’d love to see different takes on those universes,” the publisher said, in part. “What would Gex look like in a side-scrolling adventure, or a turn-based strategy? So feel free to mash up genres, and get creative.”
“I’m excited to see what talented teams might do with any one of Gex, Fear Effect or Anachronox IPs. We’ll monitor the response carefully before deciding which IPs to release next,” said Collective project lead Phil Elliott.
