Soccer has once again proved itself the world’s most popular sport. Electronic Arts has recently announced that the sales for this year’s installment into it’s long running FIFA series have seen a 25% increase over the same fiscal period last year. The EA Sports title FIFA 10 has now sold over 4.5 million units since its release, 1.7 million of which came from its first week in Europe. While numbers like that, FIFA 10 has become the top European game for the year. A representative from EA recently took time after the announcement to speak on the game’s upcoming DLC, Ultimate Team, which will release in February for $4.99 on PSN and XBLA.

FIFA 10 Ultimate Team adds a lot more authenticity to a unique game that will update with new challenges and content over time,” said Producer Paul Hossack. “We now have over 7,000 players from 27 leagues available, from which gamers will craft one or multiple squads to show their mastery of the revamped, more realistic chemistry system, and compete in tournaments with exciting requirements and rewards. On top of that, we’ll release new tournaments and other updates regularly to keep the experience fresh and exciting.”
