Though the organization has not yet officially released its financial statements for the financial year ending March 31 2010, Sony has revised estimated earnings for the previous financial year. Rather than posting a 771 million loss, as was expected in February this year, the organization now expects losses of (only) $440m. Sony stated that a major contributor to these improved forecasts has been the Networked Products and Services division which, amongst others, contains Sony Computer Entertainment. While the gaming division of Sony still posted a loss, the organization expects it will return to long-term profitability this year.
Specifically, the organization states that improved results of this department were due to improved performance within the game business and streamlined VAIO computer manufacturing. In the previous financial year, Sony launched the Playstation 3 Slim edition, the PSP Go and published high-profile titles such as God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves.
