Del Rey Books, publisher of science-fiction novels in the Halo and Star Wars franchises, has announced that it will be publishing a novel that is set in the Deus Ex universe. Though the upcoming installment in the series, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, is currently slated for a release in March 2011, it is unclear whether the book will also be available at that time. However, the book is set to release somewhere next year. The book will not directly cover the events found in the game, but a representative from Square Enix indicated that certain story elements and characters found in the novel will also play a role within the game.
The novel, which will be known as Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect, is to be written by James Swallow. In the past, Swallow has written novels for the Star Wars, Stargate and Warhammer 40,000 franchises. The story will revolve around two characters: a secret service agent known as Anna Kelso and a special-ops soldier known as Ben Saxon.
Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect is set to be the first novel to be published in the series that originated in 2000.
I kinda expected that the book and the game would be related since the trailers have shown references to Icarus.
