A second analog nub was almost a certainly once rumors of the PSPGo began gaining more and more credibility, but with the system’s leak and later launch neglecting to add the seemingly mandatory feature has gotten many gamers questioning Sony’s business logic. In a recent interview with Game Informer, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida clarified the company’s position on the feature, and revealed that Sony did, in fact, consider their inclusion.
“We also felt — like many users — that we wish we had a second analog on the PSP,” said Yoshida. “But we are talking about the mid-life cycle of this platform, and the PSP Go is designed to be perfectly compatible with the PSP-3000 and all the games that released before that. So we had a very serious discussion about this particular subject, but we decided not to add a second analog, and some of the developers are doing quite a nice job translating the second analog functionality to different buttons. We didn’t want to divert their efforts either.”
That’s valid. As long as they have two analog sticks on the PSP2 and it can play PS2 games, then I’m happy.
Yeah, that sounds fair enough. I don’t think the 2nd analogue knub is really all that needed anyway. The only thing it would help would be with FPS and TPS, which is a very, very small part of the handheld gameing market. I would rather see some more innovative games on the console, rather than just ports of other games.
I’d rather an actual analog stick, than a second analog nub myself.
