Earlier today, EA released a fiscal statement covering the third quarter of the financial year 2010, running from October 2009 through December 2009, that revealed the release window for seven IPs. Following major titles such as Dante’s Inferno and Dragon Age: Origins – Awakenings, both of which will still officially be released in the current financial year, EA will release Realtime Worlds’ MMO-shooter APB and Medal of Honor, currently under development by EA Los Angeles, in Q2 of the financial year (FY) 2011. This period runs from July until September 2010.
During FY Q3, which runs from October until December 2010, EA will release Crysis 2 as well as a currently unannounced instalment in the Need for Speed-series. Crysis 2 is currently in development for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 at Crytek Frankfurt, and will be set in New York city three years after the events of the original Crysis.
Lastly, Q4 of the financial year 2011, running from January 2011 until March, will see the release of Dead Space 2, an unannounced title in the Dragon Age series, a currently unnamed game being developed in cooperation with Epic Games and a unspecified action title that will be available for download. It is currently unclear whether the unspecified action title will only be available as a downloadable title. The title that is being developed in cooperation with Epic Games is rumored to be known as Bulletstorm and is being developed by Epic-owned studio People Can Fly. The currently unspecified Dragon Age title will be released for PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and handhelds platforms.
The statement did not provide any information on possible high-profile games for the Nintendo Wii.

There is little doubt that Sony’s digital-only PSPGo has been hindered since before its launch, leaked nearly a month previously and failing to live up to many fan-favorite potential designs. A hefty price tag and some lackluster launch numbers later, and it appears that Sony may be considering re-vamping the PSPGo’s image with a re-launch marketing campaign of sorts. Via Gamervision, it appears that the main focus of this possible re-launch will be a lower price tag, although nothing is confirmed beyond rumor status at this point. As always, Sony’s response to Elder-Geek’s call for comment was that the company “does not comment on rumors.”

With many Game Industry veterans voicing their expectations regarding the iPad recently, it has become clear that developers have mixed feelings with respect to the viability of the iPad as a gaming platform. However, SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller stated that the launch of the iPad would be a ‘net positive’ for Sony in the long run, as he expects that the iPad will introduce a new segment of the market to portable gaming. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he stated that “when people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP.”
Koller also pointed out that since the release of the iPhone in 2007, which quickly proved itself to be a viable handheld gaming platform, PSP sales have nearly tripled.
Several third parties, amongst which EA, have already announced they will develop games for the platform. Others have voiced their disappointment, with Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata calling the iPad “just a bigger iPod Touch.”

Coming out a full two weeks before the film has been the reason most have attributed to the failure, the top brass at the publisher have mentioned that releasing licensed media in December has always been a risky move. Speaking shortly after the company slashed its guidance, CEO Yves Guillemot spoke on how the company has taken the hit.

Even though legendary developer 3D Realms was forced to lay off the entire production team working on Duke Nukem: Forever earlier this year due to financial trouble, the co-founder of the studio, Scott Miller, recently stated that “the next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke.” However, the fate of Duke Nukem: Forever remains unclear at this time, as 3D Realms is still involved in a legal battle with publisher Take-Two Interactive over the rights to the series.
Miller was recently quoted in Gamesauce as stating:
There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production. [...] Almost all of these [projects] are unannounced.
At this time, upcoming Duke Nukem games are known to include a port of the classic Duke Nukem 3D to the iPhone and a series of three separate games currently in development for the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, though none of these currently have a fixed release date.

EEDAR, the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research has release sales figures for 2009. As a whole, 1,099 games were released this year as opposed to 1,092 the year previous. Jesse Divinich, spokesperson of EEDAR states that, “”For just the current generation home consoles (PS3/360/Wii), 2009’s release quantities increase the total availability of games to consumers by 55 percent. Unless retail shelf space grows by the same amount–and it isn’t–than the retail shelf life for an average game decreases dramatically. “ In terms of video game released in relation to gaming platforms, Divnich noted that DS and Wii has significant bumps in their release numbers despite drops in console sales early on in the year, while Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 were slightly down and would be lower if not for digital distribution. Divnich predicts that there will be a 5-8% drop this coming year due to industry and marketing trends seen from the previous console generations.
