According to a report by Massively, Nexon, the Korean publisher of Maplestory, Combat Arms, and Dungeon Fighter Online, has acquired a minority stake in NCsoft, the publisher of Aion, Guild Wars, and multiple other MMORPGs. More details are included after the jump.
Nexon has acquired a stake of 14.8% in it’s competitor, with the transaction having a total value in excess of $687 million. As a result of the transaction, Nexon is now the largest shareholder in NCsoft. According to Nexon, the investment forms the basis for a long-term pertnership between the companies. No details were shared as to the way the companies intend to work together in the future.
The acquisition of shares in NCsoft is not the first time in recent months that Nexon has acquired a stake in an Asian publisher, with the Korean company having acquired the Taiwanese Gamania just a few weeks ago.
